For centuries, owning your own home has been something to aspire to in America. And according to this year’s Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers from the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®, that hasn’t changed.
According to NAR’s data, the vast majority of non-owners in the US (81 percent) want to own a home in the future—and 75 percent believe that homeownership is a part of the American Dream.
There are a variety of reasons why non-owners aspire to own their own property, including believing it’s a smart financial investment (78 percent) and that it would be easier to save money and build assets over time as a homeowner (73 percent). There are also life events that tend to trigger a desire to own a home, including marriage and starting a family (31 percent) or the desire to settle down in a single location (16 percent).
Bottom line? Homeownership is still very much a part of the American Dream. So, if you’ve been thinking about purchasing a home, you’re definitely not alone—and now would be a great time to make a move and turn your version of the American Dream into a reality.
