Description
The S.H. Kress & Company, of five-and-dime stores, was founded by Samuel H. Kress in 1896. The Art Deco style, most of the buildings were constructed in, were so impressive in their architectural style, the National Building Museum in Washington, DC put together a collection of over 6,000 architectural plans and photographs of the over 200 stores built in the U.S. The Galveston location was built in 1910. Kress Lofts are located on the second floor of the building, with retail space on the ground floor. Parking for Kress Lofts is in private garages.
